One of the standout moments at Bastille Day: French Fest 2025 was stepping into the vibrant world of acclaimed Denver artist Darrell Anderson. Set up in his own dedicated booth on Fillmore Plaza, Darrell painted live throughout the day on Friday, offering festivalgoers a rare and intimate look at his creative process.
Known for his powerful abstract works, Darrell’s canvases are alive with color, texture, and movement. Watching him paint in real time was like witnessing an unfolding visual symphony—spontaneous yet intentional. Each stroke carried emotion and energy, inviting viewers to experience the story beyond the surface. His booth quickly became a magnet for curious visitors, drawn in by the magnetic rhythm of his evolving works.
Darrell’s participation in French Fest was more than just an artistic feature—it marked a meaningful return to his international roots. In the 1990s, he traveled to Brest, France—Denver’s sister city—as a cultural ambassador on behalf of then-Mayor Wellington Webb. There, he led a mural project with the local community, fostering connection and dialogue through art. His presence at the festival, decades later, brought that story full circle.
We were deeply honored to have Darrell Anderson share his talent and time with us this year. His bold abstractions didn’t just decorate the festival—they added a layer of depth and cultural resonance to the celebration. Merci, Darrell, for painting your story live and allowing all of us to be part of the journey.
